Musical Chairs Summer School (MCSS) was founded and initiated in 2010 by Joanna Welsh a local music teacher. MCSS has gone from strength to strength, now in its 13th Season. It incorporates some 30 amateur players of all ages (10 to 95) who play a wide variety of orchestral instruments and specialize in show/film music with a nod to some light classical.
The school is over 4 days in late July/early August and comprises about 50% full orchestral sessions with a fully qualified conductor, interspersed with sectional tutorials tutored by professional musicians, and culminates in a free concert for the public, which is always well supported.
The school is noted for the friendly and informal (Family) atmosphere with intervals during the day for social banter. A popular feature is the catering with homemade food provided for those who wish to partake. Check out www.mcss.org.uk for dates, fees, and venue details.
